COUNSELLING THERAPY
WHAT IS COUNSELLING THERAPY?
Counselling Therapy is a form of “talk therapy” that involves a trained professional assisting the individual in finding helpful ways to deal with their emotional issues.
The following aspects underpin counselling therapy:
A confidential relationship of trust is built during one-on-one sessions whereby complicated, stressful feelings or emotional issues are identified through talking and listening.
Individuals in therapy are encouraged to focus on their feelings, experiences, and behaviours to facilitate positive change and help them see things more clearly.
Counselling therapy, through talking, finds unique solutions in dealing with the individual’s problems in a safe, non-judgemental space. Counselling therapy is not about giving advice or telling the individual what to do.
Through this helping approach of talk therapy, individuals’ emotional and intellectual experiences highlight their feelings and thoughts about their problems. The psychologist can use various techniques and interventions from client-centred treatment to assist the client in dealing with and overcoming their obstacles.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF COUNSELLING THERAPY?
At Mizu Therapy & Assessment, assistance and guidance are offered to children, adolescents, and parents to resolve personal and psychological issues, such as trauma counselling. Therapy is designed around individual needs and what may be appropriate for one person might not be as effective for another. As such, psychotherapy is adapted to what a specific person may need.
The purpose is for the client to make sense of what may be going on in his/her/it’s life, and to learn how to handle complicated situations, identify triggers and learn how to deal with them. A person learns emotional coping strategies to handle emotions more effectively and that may stand them in good stead for years to come.
