EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY CONCESSION ASSESSMENTS
WHAT ARE CONCESSION ASSESSMENTS?
Concession Assessments are formal assessments conducted by registered educational psychologists to determine whether a student require additional accommodations or support according to their cognitive potential. Concession assessments can be requested at primary, high school or tertiary level.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CONCESSION ASSESSMENTS?
If a child is struggling at school, battles to keep up with classmates or underperforms, parents seek to understand what might be causing the difficulties and how they can help their child perform better in their current situation.
Concession reports can thus be used by parents as well as schools to apply for special concessions, accommodation and support during exams and tests. Government schools apply at the provincial Education departments, while private schools apply at the Independent Educational Board (IEB). Reports contain recommendations to assist and support learners with-in the mainstream schooling and classroom setup.
Concessions could include the following:
Additional time; spelling and handwriting accommodations; computer assistance; rest breaks during examination; a reader; a prompter; an amanuensis (transcriber); medication or food intake; separate venues and class assistants.
Various steps need to be completed in order to qualify for concessions. Mizu Therapy & Assessment will guide you along the way and assist you in attaining the required documents needed for a successful concession application.
We assist with:
- A full psycho-educational assessment;
- A professional report & personal feedback
- Official documentation to be completed by the psychologist and sent to the school/department
