EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT PSYCHOLOGIST
Educational assessments are also known as educational evaluations, scholastic assessments, or academic testing. Educational assessments refer to the systematic process of identifying a person’s cognitive abilities, academic potential, knowledge, neuropsychological vulnerabilities and strengths. Persons’ emotional state and the efficiency of their coping skills, as well as how these impact on their academic performance, are also considered. An educational assessment is performed by a licensed educational assessment psychologist and are done to help parents make informed decisions regarding a person’s schooling and also to learn strategies to support their children to reach their full potential
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY ASSESSMENTS?
At Mizu Therapy & Assessment, our registered educational psychologist, Riza van der Merwe, extracts the helpful information learnt from the tests about the individual’s capabilities, behaviour and personality. Various psychological assessment measurements are further employed to gain insight into a client’s potential for learning, possible barriers to learning, interests, personality and emotional status. All aspects are considered and interpreted to assist parents and caregivers in improving their understanding of the child/student/adolescent and assisting them in succeeding academically.
Educational Assessments are requested for various reasons:
Parents concerned about their child’s development and progress;
Possible learning difficulties identified by teachers;
Poor scholastic performance;
Behavioural concerns;
School-based Assessment Committee Requests;
Concession needs (additional time, scribes, amanuensis, large typeface, etc.)
